Q. If my freight is lost or damaged in shipping, is it automatically insured for full replacement value?
A. No, shipments are not automatically insured as part of our service. As with all freight companies, there are limits of liability depending upon the commodity and other factors; however, there is a maximum liability of $500.00 per piece, package, or customary freight unit. If you have freight which is fragile or of high value, we suggest purchasing cargo insurance.
Q. Does Project Transport offer insurance?
A. Yes. Upon request, we can additionally provide marine cargo insurance placement with our insurance underwriter.

Q. How do I get a quote?
A. In order to obtain a quote, you fill out our Quote Request Form. We also provide instant LCL rates to Hawaii and Guam/Saipan. Last but definitely not least, please feel free to speak directly to one of our friendly, knowledgeable representatives by calling us at (626) 303-4500. We are available in the office to service you from 8 AM – 5 PM PST.
Q. What information must I provide on my quote request?
A. In addition to providing the dimensions, weight and description of your freight, you would also need to specify the origin and destination zip codes. Project Transport offers a wide selection of quote services. To name a few, we provide “port to port,” “port to door,” “door to door,” and “door to will call” services. Please specify if pickup or delivery is needed, and/or whether the shipment requires any additional services. With our wide range of transportation services, we can provide a quote specifically tailored to meet your shipping needs.
Q. Is my quote a guarantee of price?
A. Rate quotations are for the purpose of estimating freight charges and are not necessarily a guarantee of price. Freight charges shall be based upon the actual commodity, weight, and measure at time of shipping. Unless otherwise stated, freight quotations are valid for 30 days and are based upon present tariff and shipping conditions. Quotes are subject to confirmation at time of booking.

Q. Do you provide delivery service to the consignee location?
A. In addition to pickups, we provide both delivery service and “will call” service on the Hawaiian Islands and most of our other service areas. We provide options for residential delivery, military delivery, liftgate delivery and inside delivery.
Q. Who are your trucking agents on the Hawaiian Islands?
A. For Less-Than-Container Load (LCL) shipments, our trucking agents are as follows:
  • Oahu & Maui: Xpress Trucking
  • Kauai: Kauai Freight Service
  • Hawaii (Big Island): Conens Freight
For oversized and heavy lift cargos, we work with our specialized trucking partners on each island to provide outstanding delivery service for even the most ambitious of projects.

On the Hawaiian Islands, we specifically provide route surveying & planning, road permits, and police escorts for extra tall, wide, and/or heavy items. Please visit our Photo Gallery to view some of our past shipments.

Q. Where is your Container Freight Station (CFS) located?
A. Our Container Freight Station is located at 1981 E. 213th St., Carson, CA 90810.
Q. What are your CFS receiving hours?
A. Our receiving hours are from Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM – 5:00 PM. For more information, please see our CFS Information Sheet.
Q. When do you have sailings to Hawaii? What are the cutoff times?
A. For our Less-Than-Container Load (LCL) shipments, we have sailings twice weekly. We have sailings every Wednesday and Saturday, with cutoffs of 3:00 PM on Tuesday and Friday, respectively.
Q. How are my shipments rated?
A. Shipments are rated on a per-cubic-foot basis. An exception to the cubic foot rule is the “density rule factor,” which states that shipments with a density exceeding 45 pounds per cubic foot will be assessed on the basis of one cubic foot per 45 pounds.
Q. How do I calculate cubic feet?

A. To calculate cubic feet, first measure the shipment in inches. Next, multiply the length, width, and height measurements, and divide their total by 1,728.

(length x width x height) divided by 1,728 = cubic feet

Example A: 1 pc. 48″ L x 40″ W x 48″ H divided by 1,728 = 53.3 cubic feet, and would be rated as 53 CFT.

The total cubic feet of pieces will be rounded up or down to the nearest whole cube when extended. Shipments tendered on pallets will be cubed upon the greatest three dimensions of each palletized unit.
Q. Do you handle hazardous freight?
A. Yes, we are trained and licensed to ship hazardous goods. Proper hazardous information must be tendered with all hazardous shipments. Please see our Hazardous Goods Declaration Form for the required information.
Q. Are there are any restrictions on the size or weight of my LCL freight?
A. Yes. For LCL freight, the shipment cannot exceed the inside dimensions of a 40’ high cube container. More specifically, any single shipping unit cannot exceed 39’6″ in length, 7’7″ in width, or 8’5″ in height. Also, each unit is not to exceed 10,000 lbs. Any shipment of abnormal or unusual nature may constitute an exception to normal loading requirements. If a shipment is deemed unfit to be loaded into a container, then it can be routed through our packing facility for more specialized handling. For more information on our packing facility services, please see our Conventional Load FAQ.
Q. Do you handle Full Container Load (FCL) shipments?
A. We do offer Full Container Load (FCL) shipments for 20’ Standard, 40’ Standard, 40’ High Cube and 45’ High Cube containers. We provide “live load” and “drop and pull” service to or from any location within the United States. For a detailed list of container capacities and limitations, please refer to Ocean Equipment Specifications.
Q. Do you handle refrigerated containers?
A. Project Transport only handles dry equipment. At this time, we do not work with any refrigerated containers or cargo requiring temperature control.
Q. Are there any packaging requirements?
A. All shipments must be properly export packaged for ocean shipping (i.e. crated or palletized). Project Transport is not liable for damages to items with insufficient packaging. If you are uncertain as to whether or not your freight is properly packed for ocean shipping, please contact us for additional details at (626) 303-4500.

A. Yes, Project Transport can accommodate your wheeled cargo by providing RORO service. During ocean transport, your shipment will be stowed and secured safely in a dry, below-deck location aboard the vessel.
Q. What type of ocean equipment do you provide for oversized cargo?
A. We provide loading and lashing of your oversized cargo onto 40’ flatracks, 45’ flatracks, and 40’ flatbed trailers. We also provide a wide array of specialized equipment including platforms, gondolas, mafis, and heavy haul & drop deck trailers to meet the specific handling requirements of your cargo.
Q. I have a shipment that cannot fit into an ocean container; however, it is not going to take up an entire 40’ flatrack. Do I still have to pay for the entire flatrack?
